COPPES COMMONS SOUPER BOWL EVENT
On Saturday, March 9 the combined ceramics classes and student volunteers from NorthWood High School provided 200 soup bowls for the Souper Bowl event to raise funds for Family Christian Development Center. Clay and glaze were provided by the charity, while the NorthWood staff and students volunteered a Saturday and after-school time to produce each unique terracotta bowl.
The project began after Christmas break with the construction and glazing events: students experimenting with design, glazing techniques, and color combinations to produce their one-of-a-kind product.
At the Souper Bowl event, patrons were able to purchase and keep their bowls, filled with their choice of delicious soup offerings.
COPPES COMMONS QUILT MURAL PROJECT
On Saturday, March 9, NorthWood High School art students participated in a community event highlighting their work in the visual arts – the Quilt Mural Restoration Project.
Local artist, Jeff Stillson created the original murals five years ago and the murals needed to be re-painted. NorthWood students worked side by side with students from other Elkhart County high schools to complete the mural make-overs. Mr. Stillson wanted our local students to be involved in this project in order to encourage them to continue to pursue their love of art and to learn one way that classes in the visual arts can be connected with a real life experience.
The murals will be on display at the Coppes Commons in Nappanee until May 11 and then they can be viewed at the various locations throughout Elkhart County.
