Medication Policy

The following guidelines will be used by Wa-Nee Community Schools in regard to the administration of medication to students in the school setting. These guidelines are necessary to provide for the safety and well being of your child and the school employees.

*Under normal circumstances medication should be dispensed before and/or after school hours under the supervision of the parent or guardian.

*Only medication that must be given during the school day is permitted in the school.

*Students are not permitted to carry ANY medication with them during the school day, except asthma inhalers or Epipens with proper documentation. All other medications must be secured with the School Nurse.

MEDICATION WILL NOT BE GIVEN WITHOUT A PARENTAL PERMISSION FORM SIGNED

In the event a parent is unable to come to school to fill out a permission form then the parent/guardian must send a note along with the medication. This note must include:

*Child's Name * Name of medication * Amount of medication to be given * Time for medication to be given * Quantity of medicine being sent * Parent/Guardian Signature

ALL MEDICATION MUST BE IN THE ORIGINAL CONTAINER

This includes both prescription and nonprescription medications. The school will not accept medication in letter envelopes or plastic bags.

Parents should only send the amount of medicine to be taken at school. The school may send unused medicine home with the student but only with the written permission of the parent/guardian.

We ask your support and cooperation as we provide for the safety and well-being of both students and school employees. The school nurses will be glad to assist you whenever there is a concern regarding your child's need for medication.

Sincerely,

Joe Sabo, Superintendent
