It is with great sadness that Wa-Nee Community Schools announces the vacancy on its school board created by the untimely passing of Eric Brown, board member representing Olive Township. Mr. Brown served as a school board member since 2000 and his dedication to and caring for our school corporation, staff and students will be sorely missed. Indiana law requires Wa-Nee Community Schools to promptly fill Mr. Brown’s remaining term on the school board, which runs through December 31, 2020.
Superintendent
Scot Croner explained that state law requires the remaining school board
members, by a majority vote, to fill the vacancy by appointing a person who
resides in Olive Township and meets all residence and other qualifications required
of a regularly elected or appointed board member.
Because
Mr. Brown was elected as the school board representative of Olive Township, the
person chosen to fill the vacancy by the board must reside in that township and
be otherwise qualified to run in an election for the seat he or she is filling.
School board policy and Wa-Nee Community Schools’ election plan require that candidates for this seat on the Board of School Trustees be:
- An American citizen;
- A qualified voter;
- Twenty-one years of age or older;
- A resident within the school corporation boundaries continuously for more than one (1) year and the State of Indiana for two (2) years prior to the date of the appointment; and
- A resident of Olive Township for at least on (1) year prior to his or her appointment.
