“NorthWood High School is a comprehensive secondary school that educates all the students in grades nine through twelve within the Wa-Nee Community. At NorthWood, we believe that all students can learn. It is our vision to provide the standards for an exemplary school, a safe environment for student learning, and a positive sense of community among students, faculty and staff.

We currently serve the educational needs for 872 students. We are in the ninth year of operating on a trimester schedule. The trimester schedule has facilitated greater student learning, provided more opportunities to earn Academic Honors diplomas, and increased participation and success in the fine arts programs.

NorthWood has earned the respect of area schools and received national recognition because of its success in numerous programs, such as academic competitions (fourteen state championships), FFA tractor restoration projects, yearbook publications, fine arts, band, choir and drama. Athletics have had two state championship teams and numerous regional and sectional titles.

The staff at NorthWood High School is dedicated to maintaining high expectations for student achievement through teacher collaboration during Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). The teacher leadership capacity allows NorthWood High School to address the federal and state mandates to uphold “A Tradition of Excellence” while teaming with the community to maintain a culture for success."

"We currently provide service to 722 students, grades 6-8. With the completion of a major construction project in 2003 we now have a beautiful, state-of-the-art educational facility our community is very proud of. A few of the new amenities include a centrally located media center, two gymnasiums, a large group instruction area and stadium seating.

Our staff provides a daily homeroom program to encourage involvement in a weekly intramural program, academic incentives and enrichment classes. Homeroom also provides a safe environment to address both social and emotional issues which are important to children at this age.

Academics are certainly a strong focus as evidenced by consistently high ISTEP+ scores. To encourage a partnership with parents and encourage their involvement in their child’s education, the staff has developed a Learning Fair to highlight each student’s individual progress. The former “arena-style” parent conference night has been changed into an interactive event that includes students sharing their portfolios, a reflection of their progress, and the use of an electronic grade book to provide concrete information to the parents.

The middle school staff is committed to their students and passionate about their subject. The use of interdisciplinary units, thematic units and a schedule that allows flexibility to collaborate, all provide lessons which teach and enrich the curriculum. Life is good at NorthWood Middle School!"
