Wa-Nee Community School
Parents,
Yesterday afternoon, Governor Holcomb announced that all schools must remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Although this decision will make learning more difficult, we support our government’s efforts to ensure the health and safety for our students, families, and community.
Upon returning from spring
break, we will utilize the following schedule until our last school day (Friday,
May 22, due to snow make-up day)

Over the past several weeks I have had the privilege to watch our school community rise to the challenges of these unprecedented times. Although the remainder of the school year will look different as our classrooms have moved to the kitchen table, our staff remains committed to creating learning activities that will best prepare your child for success. Our food service will continue preparing lunches that will be available via curbside pickup, Wi-Fi hotspots have been made available in our schools’ parking lots, and staff will be implementing a system to check on student well-being. While our buildings must remain closed, our district will remain open and ready to serve our community.
REMOTE
LEARNING WILL CONTINUE: Although we will continue with our Remote Learning on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, our staff will be available every day between 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM to help with student needs. On Tuesdays and Thursdays our staff will remain available to electronically discuss any questions your student may have with his/her work.
STUDENT
REQUIREMENTS/PARENT EXPECTATIONS: Upon our return from spring break, students will begin to return required assignments when completed for a grade. Due to safety concerns, we must ask that work be returned electronically. This may occur through several applications teachers have created or by simply taking a picture and submitting through your cell phone’s email. Parents may also make alternative arrangements with teachers/administration if unique circumstances arise.
In the coming weeks parents
will be able to view online student progress using our student management
system, Skyward. Teachers will be posting
updates weekly beginning April 20.
FOOD
SERVICE: We want to continue to encourage any family who has a need to
take advantage of the student meals that are being provided. Meals will be available on Mondays and
Wednesdays from 11-1 at the following locations:
=
NorthWood Middle School (West Side Entrance)
=
Nappanee Elementary School (Main Entrance)
=
Millwood Acres (Entrance)
=
Meadows (Office)
=
Northside Manor (Parking Lot Between Buildings)
=
Yellow Creek Mennonite Church (South Parking
Lot)
=
Harrison Ridge (Entrance on CR 28)
=
Recovery Park
Meals provided on Mondays
will include a meal for Tuesday and the meals provided Wednesdays will include
meals for Thursday and Friday. Meal
service will continue to be available through Friday, May 22, and will also be available during the week of Spring Break (April 6-10, 2020).
OFFICE
HOURS: PLEASE
NOTE: School offices will be open
as needed on an appointment only basis.
We understand the hardship this closing will have on families, however,
the health and safety of our community and staff must be our primary concern.
We have created a web
page to help organize all
of the COVID-19 related information and will continue to provide the most up to
date information as we receive it from state and local government officials.
Again, more than ever, we want
to encourage parents/guardians to be prudent and to practice the social distancing
guidance from health officials. Please
keep your child(ren) home and limit unnecessary travel. Avoid large groups and
social gatherings.
Stay Safe and Stay Home, we are all in this together!
Sincerely
Scot D. Croner, PhD
