Wa-Nee
Community School Parents,
As many of you are already aware, yesterday Governor Eric Holcomb made the decision to close all Indiana Public Schools and announced that they were not permitted to reopen until May at the earliest. For Wa-Nee Community Schools, we will continue with our Remote Learning schedule and we will (tentatively) plan to
return to school on Monday, May 4, 2020. Please keep in mind this date may change as
we receive more guidance and information on the COVID-19 virus. We continue to ask that you remain vigilant by
checking your email, our school’s website, and our social media pages for
updates.
During this time, it is
important that we are able to communicate with you. Our
school offices will remain open; however, this is subject to change. Please take a moment to check your Skyward
Family Access and provide us with your email address if you haven’t done so
already. Utilizing our parent/guardian
email system during this extended school closure for the COVID-19 virus
outbreak is the most effective way we have to communicate with our families.
REMOTE LEARNING WILL
CONTINUE: We
will continue to offer our Remote Learning for your child(ren) on Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Fridays. Our teachers are
doing a phenomenal job providing both review and enrichment experiences for your
child(ren) on these days. We want to
encourage you to take advantage of the electronic resources that are being made
available and use the virtual learning platforms as much as possible. However, we are also aware that for some of
our families that paper/pencil packets are a better option and we will make
packets available as necessary. We ask
that you please contact the office where your child(ren) attends when
paper/pencil packets are needed, and we will work individually with you to meet
this need.
SPRING 2020 Assessment Requirements: The Indiana Department of Education will be pursuing all
federal waivers associated with the forgiveness of mandated assessment
requirements for the 2019-2020 school year. Currently, IREAD-3, ILEARN, ISTEP+,
I AM, WIDA Screener, and ISPROUT have been cancelled. Please note, ISPROUT and
WIDA continue to be available for early childhood providers that are
operational and districts utilizing eLearning/remote learning. Additional information from the Indiana
Department of Education regarding the Spring 2020 assessments has been attached
to this letter.
FOOD SERVICE OPTIONS: Families are encouraged to take advantage of
the student meals that are being provided by the Wa-Nee Food Service department. Student meals are available from 11-1 at the
following locations:
=
NorthWood Middle School (West
Side Entrance)
=
Nappanee Elementary School (Main
Entrance)
=
Millwood Acres (Entrance)
=
Meadows (Office)
=
Northside Manor (Parking Lot
Between Buildings)
=
Yellow Creek Mennonite Church
(South Parking Lot)
=
Harrison Ridge (Entrance on CR

=
Recovery Park
OFFICE HOURS: At this time our school offices will maintain
their regular office hours. We simply
ask that parents/guardians call prior to coming to the school. All schools are currently being cleaned and
sanitized in anticipation for the return of our students which means access is
limited in some areas of the buildings. Please be aware that you will only be
able to enter through the Main Entrances and will not be allowed access beyond
the lobby area. If you need to bring
your child(ren) with you, we ask that you remain in your vehicle and call the
office and our staff will make arrangements with you to pick up the items you
need. Student access to our buildings is
restricted at this time.

Again,
we want to encourage parent/guardians to be prudent and to follow the “Social
Distancing” guidance from the State and Local Health Officials. Please keep your child(ren) home and limit
unnecessary travel. Avoid large groups and social gatherings.
I
am extremely thankful to you for your understanding during this prolonged and
unprecedented school closure. Please be assured
that we have an amazing and dedicated team at Wa-Nee that is working tirelessly
behind the scenes to maintain both a safe environment and the level of learning
that inspires “A Tradition of Excellence” for your child(ren).
Sincerely,
Scot
