  • This week is national German-American week. This week celebrates the contributions Germans and those of German ancestry have made to America and American culture. Almost 50 million Americans claim German ancestry, and that includes over 23% of the population of Elkhart county. Today is also the first day of the German-American contest, which, because of the pandemic, is concentrating on German medical advances. The first person in the contest earned the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901 for his discovery of the x-ray. Six weeks after his discovery, he took a picture of the bones inside his wife´s hand and doctors have been using this technology ever since to look inside the human body. If you know who it might be, stop by Frau Grimm’s room, put your name and answer on a piece of paper and you may be drawn to win delicious German chocolate or gummi bears. This contest is open to any student or staff member. Good luck!
