Food Recall Notice
Last evening, April 30, 2015, Wa-Nee Community Schools received a product recall notice from Sun Rich Fresh Foods, Inc., who sells our school community apple slices packaged in accordance with federal, school food service guidelines.  That notice warned that the packaged apple slices may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an infectious organism that can cause serious, sometimes fatal, illness in young children.  Symptoms of a Listeria infection include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Packaged apple slices on the recall list were served yesterday in student lunches at NorthWood Middle School and may have been served at all of our schools during the past week.  If your child displays any of those symptoms, please seek immediate, medical attention.  Wa-Nee Community Schools has alerted the local health department, hospitals, and medical professionals about this recall.  If your child brought home any apple slices packages during the past two weeks, we ask that parents return those packages to the school or Wa-Nee Community Schools' administration building as soon as possible.

We will continue to keep you informed about this recall notice and Wa-Nee Community Schools' efforts to address that recall.  If you have any questions, please contact the administration building at 574-773-3131.

Joe Sabo, Superintendent
Wa-Nee Community Schools
