Sugar Ray Leonard, regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, once said, “Within our dreams and aspirations we find our opportunities.” Being able to be a part of the Wa-Nee community has been a wonderful opportunity for me; and this opportunity grew out of my dreams and aspirations for sure. After graduating from NorthWood High School in 2000, I went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology in 2004 and my Master of Science Degree in Counseling & Human Services in 2009 from Indiana University South Bend. My counseling career has spanned from community mental health to secondary education and has included extensive work within the area’s substance abuse, grief, mood disorders, behavioral health disorders, and community awareness & outreach. I completed my School Counseling License with the hopes of being able to someday work within the world of K-12 education.
In January 2019, I was offered the opportunity to become the Corporation Mental Health Counselor for Wa-Nee Community Schools—a dream that has now become a reality. I continue to live in Nappanee with my husband, Nick, and our three children (Mason, Maya, and Macguire). We enjoy being a part of a community in which the social, emotional, & behavioral aspects of students’ development are just as important as the educational development. “Every kid is one caring adult away from being a success story.” Josh Shipp
